Russia handed over 15 captives to Ukraine: among them are persons with reduced mobility
According to glavcom.ua: The Ombudsman of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, announced that 15 citizens held by the Russian Federation have returned to Ukraine. He shared this news on the social network Facebook.
The meeting with the Russian human rights commissioner, Tatyana Moskalkova, took place at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. This is confirmed by the photo showing the state coat of arms and the flag of the Republic of Belarus.
Agreements after the meeting
- transfer of humanitarian aid for Ukrainian prisoners of war and letters from relatives;
- verification of persons missing under special circumstances;
- provision of lists of severely wounded, seriously ill citizens and unlawfully detained civilians;
- resolution of issues regarding Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Russian Federation;
- addressing other humanitarian issues.
Persons with reduced mobility returned
The majority of the returning Ukrainian citizens from Russia are persons with reduced mobility, including a woman who suffered a stroke and had been in Russia for over four years. Her daughter turned to the ombudsman’s office for assistance in leaving.
Additionally, another 45 Ukrainians returned who had been in temporary detention centers in Russia. Dmytro Lubinets emphasized that he would do everything possible to bring all Ukrainians back to their homeland.
Ukrainian citizens held by Russia are returning home following a meeting of the human rights commissioners of both countries at the border with Belarus. The returned citizens, among whom were persons with reduced mobility, have received the opportunity to return to their native land, and humanitarian aid will be provided along with the resolution of other humanitarian issues. The agreements also include verification of a large number of persons missing under unknown circumstances.
