Ukraine Marks the Day of Remembrance for Fallen Medics for the First Time
According to glavcom.ua: Ukraine marks the Day of Remembrance for Fallen Medics for the first time today, July 10. This initiative was launched this year to honor the memory of medical workers who died during the large-scale war. This was reported by 'Glavkom' referencing the Ministry of Health.
«Medics on the front lines and in frontline areas, who saved our soldiers while under fire. Medics in the rear, who worked during alarm signals, in operating rooms without lights, in bomb shelters. They fought day and night for the lives of Ukrainians. However, unfortunately, they lost their lives as well. And there are hundreds of such medical workers,” emphasizes the ministry.
According to the Order of St. Panteleimon, over three years of the great war, Russia has killed at least five hundred Ukrainian medics. These are doctors, nurses, junior medical staff, and combat medics.
Project 'Light of Memory'
«To preserve the memory of each individual, the Order of St. Panteleimon is implementing the project 'Light of Memory'. Within its framework, with the participation of the National Scientific Medical Library of Ukraine and regional partners, information is being collected about fallen medical workers. If you know of a fallen medic on the front line or in the rear, in a civilian or military hospital, please send the information to the email address: [email protected]. Be sure to specify in the subject of the email: 'Light of Memory' – the message states.
Today at 14:00, a signal sounded in hospitals and medical institutions across Ukraine – the sound of a heart stopping, followed by a moment of silence.
By the way, an acclaimed volunteer and combat medic from the UK, Peter Fuchs, has died in the war in Ukraine. This was reported by the charity fund Project Konstantin, of which Fuchs was a co-founder.
Also, as a result of a mortar shelling in the area of the Joint Forces Operation, a military medic from the Vinnytsia region, Igor Slyvka, was killed. He is survived by a daughter.
The Day of Fallen Medics is celebrated for the first time in Ukraine to honor the memory of medical workers who sacrificed their lives fighting for the lives of others in wartime conditions. The launched project 'Light of Memory' is aimed at preserving the stories of fallen medics so as not to forget their contribution to Ukrainian medical care and support during the conflict.
