Ukraine's New Car Market Hits a Post-2023 High in January 2026, Led by Toyota and Surging BYD Sales
New Car Sales in Ukraine for January 2026
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine's new passenger car market achieved its strongest January performance since 2023 in the first month of 2026. Sales surged by 19.5% compared to January 2025, with consumers purchasing over 5,100 new vehicles. This marks a significant recovery for the automotive sector, which has faced considerable challenges in recent years.
Toyota maintained its position as the undisputed market leader, with sales rising by a quarter to reach 845 units. The most dramatic growth came from the Chinese brand BYD, which more than doubled its sales volume with an increase exceeding 100%, resulting in 548 cars sold. Several other major brands also posted strong gains:
- Renault sold 439 vehicles, a 31% increase.
- Skoda sales reached 368 units, up 23%.
- Volkswagen nearly doubled its sales with a 99% jump to 359 units.
- Hyundai experienced 56% growth, selling 289 cars.
In contrast, BMW sales declined sharply by 42%, falling to 190 units. The Renault Duster remained the single most popular model among Ukrainian buyers. Overall, the market shows positive momentum, driven by consumer interest in new models and increasing competition among manufacturers.
The growth in new car sales in Ukraine indicates a recovery in consumer confidence, likely linked to improvements in the economic situation and greater stability.
This expanding market activity reflects a boost in purchasing power. However, the steep drop in BMW's sales may signal a shift in consumer preferences and evolving trends within the Ukrainian automotive landscape.
