Ukrainian Refugees Face New Dangers in Dubai

According to Главком: Oleksandra Hovoruha, a Ukrainian woman who relocated from England to Dubai in 2022 to escape the war, has described the new perils her family now confronts. Following missile attacks on the city, her daughter's remote schooling has been moved to the safety of their bathroom. Hovoruha explained that one intercepted missile struck close to their home, forcing the family to immediately identify the most secure spots in their apartment for essential activities. This incident highlights how the conflict's reach extends far beyond Ukraine's borders, affecting its global diaspora.

'My daughter had online school today, but we could already hear explosions this morning. A missile was shot down very near our house. But my nine-year-old knows what war is and life has already toughened her up. So, without any extra questions, she quickly set up her own study space and is now taking her lessons from the bathroom. It's a good thing we have three of them – one 'office' for each family member,' - Oleksandra Hovoruha

She added that despite the escalating situation, she has no concrete plans for the future. 'We don't have a plan for what to do next because, just like in 2022, we had a feeling this couldn't happen here. We need to get used to always having a Plan B and being ready for any scenario,' she stated.

War's Global Impact on Displaced Ukrainians

Ukrainian singer MamaRika also found herself caught in the attacks during Iran's strike on Dubai. She reported being stranded there with her child and unable to return to Ukraine. MamaRika expressed alarm over the lack of air raid shelters and proper aerial defense systems in Dubai, a stark contrast to the infrastructure now commonplace in Ukraine.

The ordeal of Ukrainians in Dubai underscores the ongoing security crisis and the difficult adaptations required during wartime. Many who fled the conflict now face unexpected threats even after finding refuge abroad. Their experiences emphasize the critical need for international support and preparedness, as the dangers of war can manifest anywhere.
