Elina Svitolina’s Achievements at the 2026 French Open

According to Главком: Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina (WTA 7) advanced to the fourth round of the 2026 French Open after defeating Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch (WTA 95) in straight sets, 6:2, 6:3, in the third round. The match lasted 1 hour and 31 minutes. This victory propelled Svitolina to a new stage of the tournament, where she will face the winner of the match between Peyton Stearns (USA, WTA 78) and Belinda Bencic (Switzerland, WTA 11).

Svitolina began her tournament journey with a win over Hungary’s Anna Bondar in the first round, followed by a victory against Spain’s Caitlin Quevedo in the second round. Her best result in Paris remains the quarterfinals, a stage she has reached five times throughout her career.

National Record for Ukrainian Tennis Players

In addition, four Ukrainian women reached the round of 32 at Roland Garros 2026: Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Yuliya Starodubtseva, and Oleksandra Oliynykova. This achievement set a national record, surpassing the previous mark of three Ukrainian players reaching this stage in 2025. Notably, Marta Kostyuk was the first Ukrainian to secure a spot in the round of 16, defeating Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic in the third round.

This marks only the second time in history that four Ukrainian women have made it to the round of 32 at a Grand Slam tournament. The first occurred at the 2024 Australian Open, where Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremska, and Lesia Tsurenko all advanced to the third round.

The success of Ukrainian tennis players at the French Open highlights the growing competitiveness in women’s tennis within Ukraine. Having four representatives from the country reach this stage at a single Grand Slam underscores the development of young talent and their ability to compete on the global stage. Svitolina, as one of the leaders, could serve as a role model for future generations of athletes in Ukraine. This achievement may also boost tennis’s popularity in the country and attract new young players to the sport.

As the excitement builds around Ukrainian tennis, the remarkable achievements at Roland Garros pave the way for the upcoming challenges ahead. With several players showcasing their skills, many are eager to see how they will perform at Wimbledon 2026, where seven Ukrainian women are set to compete, potentially continuing this impressive trend in women's tennis.
