As of March 2025, there are over 4.26 million Ukrainian citizens with temporary protection status in the European Union. The format of support for Ukrainian refugees in EU countries has changed: the focus has shifted from victorious humanitarian aid to long-term integration through employment, education, and self-sufficiency.
The largest number of Ukrainians resides in Germany (1,184,890 people), Poland (997,120 people), and the Czech Republic (365,055 people). Poland became the first country to accept a significant number of Ukrainian refugees. Starting in 2024, Ukrainians can access support in the form of medical care, education, retraining programs, and housing compensation for certain categories.
In Germany, Ukrainians have access to basic financial support, health insurance, language courses, and job placement consultations. In the Czech Republic, retraining and employment programs have also been expanded, facilitating the integration of Ukrainians.
Temporary protection for Ukrainians in EU countries will remain in effect until March 2026. Ukrainians are expected to be active, particularly in learning the language, finding jobs, and self-sufficiency for successful long-term integration.
As of March 2025, over 4 million Ukrainians with temporary protection in the European Union are receiving support for integration in their new host countries, particularly through finding jobs and education. The largest number of Ukrainians resides in Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic, where they can benefit from various assistance programs for successful adaptation and integration.
