In Poland, the remains of UPA fighters are being exhumed: searches in the Carpathians continue
Exhumation works in the village of Yurkovy
Researchers from the memorial-research center 'Doly' have begun exhumation works in the village of Yurkovy (now Yurichkova) in Subcarpathia. It is likely that UPA fighters are buried here, who defended local Ukrainians from forced deportation. This was reported by 'Glavkom' with reference to a correspondent from Radio Liberty.
A group of researchers is exploring the forests in the Carpathians, where up to 18 UPA members may be buried, who died in the battle against the Polish People's Army in 1947. They defended the civilian population from forced removal. The researchers note that accurate data on the relocation of the deceased bodies is lacking. After the end of the Great Patriotic War in 1945, the village of Yurichkova became part of Poland, and Ukrainians began to be expelled. The UPA tried to resist these actions.
The exhumation works here aim to establish the identities of the deceased and their subsequent restoration. The discovery of the graves of Ukrainian soldiers could be an important step in honoring the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of their nation. The work of the researchers in preserving historical truth and determining the fate of those who gave their lives for their country is invaluable.
