The signing ceremony was attended by Ukraine's Ambassador to the Republic of Lithuania, Olha Nikitchenko. The parties reviewed existing bilateral cooperation across various sectors and outlined future partnership directions, particularly concerning the European integration of Ukrainian communities and post-war reconstruction.
Ihor Terekhov noted that the memorandum lays the groundwork for a long-term partnership between Ukraine's frontline communities and Lithuanian municipalities. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in key areas such as:
- Infrastructure restoration
- Energy resilience
- Modernization of municipal services
- Post-war development
"Lithuanians are striving with all their might to help in the difficult situation faced by the Ukrainian people."
Audrius Klišonis
The Lithuanian association has already provided tangible aid in the form of heaters and generators, underscoring Lithuania's readiness to support Ukrainian communities during this challenging time. Both sides expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation that will benefit both nations and their citizens.
Significance of the Memorandum
The signing of this memorandum represents a significant step in developing cooperation between Ukraine and Lithuania, especially in the context of rebuilding Ukrainian communities after the war. Lithuania, which is already actively providing humanitarian assistance, demonstrates its commitment to supporting Ukrainian cities during this difficult period. This partnership could form the basis for deeper relations between the two countries, particularly in areas of European integration and local governance reform.
