Ukrainian children in Ireland freely speak Irish: what awaits refugees
According to glavcom.ua: Ukrainian children who are in Ireland due to the war are learning the Irish language well, sometimes even better than local residents. Ukraine's ambassador to Ireland, Larysa Gerasko, explained that Ukrainian children have community support and are often celebrated as heroes of the country, even appearing on television.
«We need our people to return. However, as long as the war continues, Ukrainians will integrate more into Irish society. This can only be countered when the war ends,» Larysa Gerasko explained.
The diplomat also noted that there is a noticeable divide between Ukrainians who remain in Ukraine and those who are abroad. This issue requires attention and resolution.
New rules for Ukrainian refugees in Ireland
According to the Ukrainian embassy in Ireland, around 80,000 Ukrainians under temporary protection are in the country, representing 2% of Ireland's population.
As of March 14, 2024, new rules have come into effect in Ireland regarding the provision of housing and social assistance to Ukrainian refugees. Temporary accommodation will be provided for 90 days, and Ukrainians will receive weekly financial assistance for living in placement centers.
The Irish society positively perceives Ukrainians temporarily residing in the country, and the new rules will simplify their integration process and support during this challenging period of their lives.
