May Highlights in the Ukrainian Premier League

According to Главком: The Ukrainian Premier League has announced its standout individuals for May, naming the month's best player and coach. Midfielder Andriy Storchous of Kudrivka earned the Player of the Month honor, while Arda Turan, manager of Donetsk-based Shakhtar, was selected as Coach of the Month. Additionally, Matviy Ponomarenko from Dynamo Kyiv was recognized as the league's top scorer for the season. In a separate development, Lviv's Rukh has decided to withdraw from the Premier League and will compete in the Second League next season.

Player and Coach Achievements

Andriy Storchous appeared in five matches during May, netting four goals-including a brace in games against Lviv's Rukh (2-1) and Dynamo Kyiv (2-3). His main rival for the award was Dynamo forward Matviy Ponomarenko, who actually surpassed Storchous in the fan vote. However, a majority of experts cast their ballots for Storchous, securing him the top spot. Expert voting placed Vadym Sydun, striker from Kamianets-Podilskyi's Epicenter, in second, while winger Gleiker Mendoza, who has since left Kryvyi Rih's Kryvbas, took third. Fans, on the other hand, included Polissya Zhytomyr defender Eduard Sarapiy in their top three.

Regarding the coaching accolade, Arda Turan-who took over at Shakhtar-emerged victorious after his team recorded four wins at the season's close, despite a loss to Kolos Kovalivka (0-1). Experts' favorite for Coach of the Month was Viktor Skrypnyk, head coach of Luhansk's Zorya, but fans preferred Ruslan Rotan from Polissya. Turan edged out Kudrivka's Oleksandr Protchenko, with both voting groups placing Protchenko in third.

Matviy Ponomarenko, named the Premier League's top scorer for the season, tallied 13 goals in 15 appearances. Meanwhile, Lviv's Rukh announced it is stepping away from the Premier League and will not participate in promotion-relegation playoffs, instead playing in the Second League next season.
