The government approved a record budget for 2026: where the trillions of hryvnias will go
The state budget of Ukraine for 2026 envisages a significant increase in expenditures for social protection and pension provision. This is evidenced by the data of the budget project, which was commented on by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, and the people's deputy, Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
Increase in pensions and social support
According to Zheleznyak, the government plans to index pensions for 10.3 million retirees from March 1, 2026. The transfer to the Pension Fund will amount to 251.3 billion hryvnias.
Total expenditures for pension provision in 2026 will amount to 1 trillion 27 billion hryvnias, which is 123.4 billion hryvnias more than the current year, as reported by Svyrydenko.
Increase in funding for the social sector
The people's deputy noted that in total, a lot has been added to the social sector, increasing funding by 161.2 billion hryvnias across all areas. Social protection will receive 467.1 billion hryvnias - an increase of 45.3 billion compared to 2025.
Increase in support for the population and veterans
Special allocations of 24.5 billion hryvnias have been made for measures to support demographic development, assistance to internally displaced persons, support for veterans, and healthcare. Veteran policy and integration into society will receive 17.9 billion hryvnias, while healthcare will receive 258 billion hryvnias.
The government of Ukraine plans to increase expenditures on social protection and pension provision in 2026, which means indexing pensions and increasing social support for the population, veterans, and other vulnerable groups.
