The capital has started the test launch of the first double-decker MAN A39 bus, which Kyiv received as a gift from its sister city Berlin. Currently, it operates on weekends on route No. 57, connecting the metro station 'Akademmistechko' and the 'Chapayeveka' market stop. The bus runs from 9:43 to 18:53. This was reported by Kyivpastrans. (Here you can insert an anchor with the source of the news.)

It meets all accessibility requirements:

  • has a low floor;

  • two places for persons in wheelchairs;

  • space for a stroller;

  • two ramps for easy access.

The cabin is equipped with panoramic windows, air conditioning, USB ports for charging gadgets, an automatic fare payment system, and public address announcements about stops on both levels. Outside, the bus is equipped with an electronic board with route information.

Why Kyiv needs double-decker buses

As noted by 'Kyivpastrans', they are currently checking how efficiently such vehicles can operate on urban routes. If the test results are positive, double-decker buses might appear on other public transport lines as well.

Previously, similar buses only operated in Kyiv during tourist tours. Now, the city authorities are considering the possibility of making them a part of the regular transport system to increase capacity and comfort of transportation.

Let us remind you that recently in Kyiv the movement of several trams and trolleybuses was temporarily suspended due to voltage fluctuations in the energy system following another Russian shelling.
