In Ukraine, a military ombudsman has been appointed: what will his powers be

The Ukrainian Parliament has adopted a law on the Military Ombudsman, which will oversee the observance of the rights of servicemen, in the second reading and as a whole. The ombudsman will identify violations, make proposals for their elimination, and have the right to obtain the necessary information to resolve issues.

'One of the key functions will be to identify violations, their causes and conditions, and to develop proposals for their minimization and elimination. The ombudsman will have the right to compile and send conclusions and recommendations to commanders (chiefs), military management bodies (management bodies), and other state bodies to enhance the effectiveness of the protection of rights.'

The law also provides the right for the President of Ukraine to appoint and dismiss the military ombudsman in case of non-fulfillment or improper fulfillment of duties. This is a new position that will protect the rights of Ukrainian servicemen.

The law on the Military Ombudsman will allow better control of the situation regarding the observance of servicemen's rights and will provide them with the necessary support and protection from possible violations.
