The Verkhovna Rada abolished the Russian language in passport booklets: details of the decision
At a plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada on October 23, a decision was made regarding changes in the appearance and design of Ukrainian passports. According to resolution No. 13369, all entries in the passport of a citizen of Ukraine in the booklet form must now be solely in the Ukrainian language. The bill received support from 265 deputies.
From now on, all data in the passport of a citizen of Ukraine will be displayed only in the Ukrainian language, without the Russian translation that was previously present in such documents.
The mentioned resolution cancels the previous provision regarding foreign passports, approved back in 1992, which was not aligned with current legislation. Since 2016, Ukrainian passports have been issued in the ID card format, and the last passports in booklet form were produced back in 2014.
In cases where an individual needs to have a passport booklet by court decision, all entries in such a document will also be executed solely in the Ukrainian language. However, if a person already has a passport booklet with Russian entries, it remains valid.
During the plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada, an important decision was made regarding the issuance of passports to Ukrainian citizens. From now on, all entries in the passport must be only in the Ukrainian language, which is a step towards strengthening the national identity of the country and complying with modern standards in the field of document circulation.
