Veteran Anton’s Road to Recovery

According to МВС: In 2025, Anton, a graduate of the Barrier-Free Driving School, joined the fight to defend Ukraine. While serving on the Kherson front, he sustained an injury that required extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation. Following his recovery, Anton completed training in a vehicle equipped with hand controls at the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs.

The training program at the Barrier-Free Driving School enabled Anton to take his practical driving exam in a specially adapted car-a major milestone in regaining his mobility and independence. He passed the test on his very first attempt. The Barrier-Free Driving Schools project is part of the "Without Barriers" initiative launched by Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, which aims to support veterans and people with disabilities.

Goals of the "Without Barriers" Initiative

The "Without Barriers" initiative is designed not only to improve access to vehicles for people with disabilities but also to enhance their social integration. The Barrier-Free Driving Schools project represents a crucial step in supporting veterans like Anton-those who were injured during service and are striving to return to an active life.

  • Improving vehicle accessibility
  • Enhancing social integration for people with disabilities
  • Supporting veterans in their return to active life

As the initiative continues to gain momentum, various programs are being developed to facilitate greater access for individuals with disabilities. One such program is the establishment of accessible driving schools across Ukraine, which not only aim to provide essential driving skills but also promote the inclusion of veterans and others in society. These efforts are vital for fostering independence and mobility among those who have faced significant challenges.
