Incidents in Snovsk and Nizhyn Raise Safety Alarms

According to Главком: On May 1, an explosion in the town of Snovsk, located in the Koriukivka district of Chernihiv Oblast, sent three minors to the hospital. The boys, aged 11, 13, and 17, discovered a belt of ammunition-likely intended for a large-caliber machine gun-and brought it home. While attempting to dismantle the find, it detonated, causing injuries to all three. They were immediately hospitalized for treatment.

Authorities have entered the incident into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which addresses negligent infliction of serious or moderate bodily harm. The event has sparked concern among local residents and law enforcement, who stress the critical need for caution when handling dangerous objects.

Separate Case in Nizhyn

In Nizhyn, also in Chernihiv region, a similar dangerous encounter occurred. A 12-year-old boy sustained a leg injury from an object resembling a traumatic pistol. According to the child, he found the item three days earlier, took it home, and hid it.

“Today, in the afternoon, police received a report that a 12-year-old boy in Nizhyn had been wounded in the leg by an object resembling a traumatic pistol. An investigative team and juvenile police officers immediately arrived at the scene,” stated the Main Directorate of the National Police in Chernihiv Oblast.

It is crucial to emphasize that touching, moving, disassembling, throwing, or heating suspicious objects is strictly prohibited. Bringing home any remnants of military equipment or ammunition is also forbidden. If an unknown object is found, the recommended action is to retreat to a safe distance and immediately call 112, 102, or 101.

These cases underscore the urgent need for vigilance and careful behavior around dangerous items, especially among children. Law enforcement urges parents to educate their children about the risks of suspicious objects and the importance of safety protocols. Such measures could help prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The alarming incidents in Snovsk are not isolated, as a similar case has emerged in Nizhyn, where a 12-year-old boy was injured by a weapon resembling a traumatic pistol. This highlights the pressing need for community awareness regarding the dangers of handling suspicious objects.
