Military Ombudsman Olga Reshetilova stated: 'The Verkhovna Rada voted for a law that stipulates that 15 out of 30 days of annual leave for military personnel are mandatory. Additionally, 14 extra days of leave (with the commander's permission) will be available to participants in combat actions.'
Moreover, 10 days of leave for family circumstances and another 14 days of additional leave for combat participants - with the commander's consent - are provided.
Changes in Legislation
These changes pertain to paragraph 18 of article 10-1 of the Law 'On Social and Legal Protection of Military Personnel and Their Families'. Initially, bill No. 13235 concerned only the training of military personnel aged 18-25 without interrupting their service, however, during the preparation for the second reading, this law was supplemented with provisions on leave. Such changes received support in parliament.
Now, commanders of military units will have the right to independently decide who and when to grant additional leave as stipulated by law.
The guarantee of the implementation of the new leave rules is an explanation from the deputy head of the Office of the President Pavlo Palisya.
