Terrorist Attack in Novooleksiivka
According to Главком: A local resident has been found guilty by the Izmail City District Court of Odesa Region for a terrorist act that occurred on April 14, 2016, in the town of Novooleksiivka, Kherson Region. A car equipped with an improvised explosive device detonated near the railway station close to the 'Friendship' cafe. The explosion resulted in six people being injured and one person killed.
Two men parked the vehicle containing the explosives at the scene, with their actions captured by surveillance cameras. One of the organizers of the terrorist attack was detained and sentenced in 2018 to 15 years in prison. The perpetrator of the blast resisted the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), fled, and remained at large for several years. He was initially tried in absentia by the Kakhovka City District Court of Kherson Region. After the occupation of the Kakhovka court, the case was transferred and concluded by the Izmail City District Court in Odesa Region.
Trial and Sentencing
In November 2025, the prosecutor noted that the accused was hiding in the Prymorskyi district of Odesa. On January 26, 2026, the accused appeared in court for the first time and was subsequently taken into custody. During the trial, the defendant pleaded guilty and provided testimony. He stated he had known the attack's organizer for approximately 20 years. Furthermore, the accused revealed he had undergone training in Murmansk, Russian Federation, from February 23 to March 16, 2016. After the bombing, his accomplice paid him $5,000 USD.
The court sentenced the defendant to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
