Architect Roman Lypka Celebrated on His 105th Birthday

According to Велика українська енциклопедія: On August 28, 2023, the architectural community marks 105 years since the birth of Roman Mykolayovych Lypka, a renowned architect, educator, and scholar. Lypka was born on that date in 1921, in Lviv, and passed away on May 20, 1999, in Warsaw, Poland, where he is buried. His career left a lasting imprint on architecture, especially in Ukraine, where he devoted more than four decades to teaching both local and international students.

Career and Contributions

Lypka had been a member of the Union of Architects of Ukraine since 1968, and from 1971 to 1983 he led the organization's Lviv branch. His research focused on Hutsul folk construction, the architecture of Lviv and its surroundings, and the lives of the city's architects and artists. He was the driving force behind the periodical “Halytska Brama,” whose illustrated supplements also appeared in Polish, and he authored numerous books and articles.
