Liberation of Kherson: how the Armed Forces of Ukraine returned the city three years ago
Ukraine today celebrates the third anniversary of the liberation of Kherson. On November 11, 2022, Ukrainian forces regained the city, the only regional center that spent a significant part of the time in the hands of Russian occupiers. On November 10, 2022, the Ukrainian flag flew again in the village of Snihurivka in the Mykolaiv region, and it became known that Ukrainian forces regained control over the village of Kyseliivka near Kherson. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyi emphasized that since the beginning of October, Ukrainian forces have liberated 41 settlements around Kherson.
On the same day, half of the Russian troops crossed the Dnipro River, and the next morning their retreat was recorded via a pontoon bridge to the eastern bank, while Ukrainian forces approached Kherson. Everywhere Ukrainian armored columns passed, local residents came out onto the streets, greeting the liberators with flags and joyful cheers.

On the evening of November 11, Ukrainian forces entered Kherson, and the next day the city was fully liberated. The Armed Forces of Ukraine also took control of the entire right-bank part of the Kherson region.

Despite the joy of liberation, Ukrainian forces acted cautiously due to possible traps from Russian forces. Sappers were finding and neutralizing mines and traps that posed a threat to military and civilian residents. Demining work continues, during which several people were injured, and one person died.
However, no serious resistance or traps were found in Kherson, and the retreat of Russian troops was described as chaotic and disorderly. Local residents joyfully welcomed the troops on the streets, coming out with flags and tears of joy.
