All border crossing points of Poland and Hungary have launched the biometric EES system

Border crossing points of Poland
У всіх КПП Польщі та Угорщини запроваджено нову систему біометричного контролю.

At the Ukrainian-Polish and Ukrainian-Hungarian borders, the EES has been implemented — a new European control system that will replace passport stamping and will record every entry and exit of third country citizens, including Ukrainians. This is reported by VisitUkraine.

EES System: What It Records

The EU is transitioning to electronic control, which is gradually being implemented at borders with Slovakia and Romania. EES automatically stores key data about border crossings:

  • date and time of entry and exit

  • fingerprints

  • facial photo

  • document information

  • number of available days in Schengen.

The system allows for accurate calculation of the 90/180 rule and eliminates the need to stamp manually. For Ukrainians, this means transparent recording of all trips and expedited control of legal stay in the EU.

Queues at the border: What do the border guards say

Due to the mandatory biometrics, many were worried that processing would slow down significantly. However, according to the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andrii Demchenko, EES does not affect the capacity of crossing points. No significant queues have been recorded, and the flow is stable.

A slight slowdown was observed only in the first days at the Yahodyn-Dorohusk crossing, but it was resolved quickly.

Earlier, we reported that under the new rules, Ukrainians and citizens of other third countries arriving in EU countries for a short term of up to 90 days will now undergo digital registration
