Woody Allen responded to Ukraine's accusations regarding his participation in the Moscow film festival
According to glavcom.ua: Woody Allen, the famous American director, made headlines during his participation in the Moscow Film Week, but he rejects Ukraine's accusations that his presence in Russia serves to whitewash the Kremlin's crimes. This was reported by The Guardian, citing Hlavkom.
During the festival, where he appeared online in a session led by Russian director Fyodor Bondarchuk, Woody Allen explained that he prefers to keep art outside of politics and war.
'I firmly believe that Putin is absolutely wrong, and his initiated war is horrific. But I do not see that stopping cultural exchanges would be beneficial,' the director emphasized.
In turn, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry condemned Woody Allen's participation in the Moscow event, calling it 'a disgrace and an offense to Ukrainian actors and filmmakers.' Diplomats believe that by participating in the event that supports Putin, the director ignores the crimes of Russia in Ukraine.
In response to Ukraine's accusations, Woody Allen stated that he believes it is important to keep art away from political crossroads and to keep the cultural dialogue open even for those who may have different views on current world events.
