From July, free travel will be suspended: who will be affected
Starting in July, some passengers in Kyiv will temporarily lose their right to free travel on public transport. At the same time, the city authorities are preparing to increase transport fares, which may come into effect in the middle of the month. This is reported by Znai.
Who will lose free travel in Kyiv from July 1, 2026
From July 1 to August 31, schoolchildren in the capital will not be able to use public transport for free. This is because the relevant exemption only applies during the school year – from September 1 to June 30.
During the summer holidays, the right to free travel for students is suspended. At the same time, other categories of passengers with benefits will keep their privileges unchanged.
For schoolchildren and students, discounted travel passes will remain. Students will pay 25% of their cost, while students will pay 50%.
What the fares for travel in Kyiv may become from July 15, 2026
Meanwhile, the city authorities are completing the procedure for approving new fares for travel on public transport.
According to the project, a single trip can increase to 30 UAH. For passengers using transport cards, discounts are provided when purchasing travel packages.
In particular, the cost of one trip may range from 23.29 to 23.65 UAH depending on the selected package.
What will happen to old trips after the fare increase in Kyiv
The Kyiv City State Administration previously reported that trips purchased before July 14 at the current rates will not be canceled after the fare changes.
They will remain valid until September 14, 2026. After that, unused trips will be automatically converted into a monetary equivalent and credited to the balance of the transport card.
The city administration explains the need for a fare review due to the rising costs of electricity, fuel, labor, and transportation infrastructure maintenance.
As a reminder, partial traffic restrictions were introduced for almost a month on one of the key transport arteries of the Pechersk district in Kyiv.
