From November 1, speed limits in Kyiv and Dnipro have been reduced to 50 km/h: where the rules apply
From November 1, important restrictions have been introduced for Ukrainian drivers. This is reported by 'Khvylia'.
Drivers in two of Ukraine's largest cities are being warned: winter speed restrictions are in effect on key routes in the capital and Dnipro. While in summer, it was allowed to speed up to 80 km/h on these sections, from November 1, the maximum speed is only 50 km/h.
In Kyiv, the restrictions apply to Naberezhne Shose, Roman Shukhevycha and Stepana Bandery avenues, as well as Naberezhno-Rybalska street. In Dnipro, the new rules have been implemented on Naberezhna Zavodska, Naberezhna Peremohy, Zaporizke and Donetske highways, as well as on the bridges across the Dnipro.
Cameras are already recording violators
Law enforcement officials have promptly updated the settings of the video surveillance cameras. For example, in the capital, the new restrictions apply, in particular, on Naberezhne Shose, 4, in Dnipro - on Naberezhna Zavodska, 64 and Peremohy, 38-A. The first fines have started to arrive already from the first days of November, when many drivers had not yet managed to get used to the changes.
Statistics that make you think
Experts explain the logic of the city's authorities' decision. According to them, in autumn, the risk of pedestrian accidents sharply increases due to worsening visibility and difficult road conditions. The statistics are relentless: when hitting at a speed of 80 km/h, the probability of pedestrian fatality exceeds 80%, while at a speed of 50 km/h this figure drops fourfold.
Last autumn, there were over 30 accidents recorded on Naberezhna Peremohy in Dnipro, the vast majority of which occurred due to speeding. The patrol police emphasize: short daylight, wet asphalt, and dazzling headlights create a dangerous combination of factors.
Safety is more important than speed
City representatives emphasize: the aim of the new regulations is not to increase fine revenues, but to reduce mortality on the roads. Experts advise drivers to be particularly cautious during the autumn-winter period and not to underestimate the worsening road conditions.
According to officials, it is better to lose a few minutes on the road than to add to the sad statistics of road accidents. The authorities urge motorists to responsibly adhere to the new rules and remember that the speed limit has been introduced for the sake of preserving the lives of both drivers and pedestrians.
Ukrainian drivers are facing new winter restrictions on the roads in Kyiv and Dnipro, where the maximum speed has been reduced to 50 km/h due to deteriorating conditions. Experts advise to be cautious on the road and to refrain from speeding in favor of overall road safety.
