From October 1, 10-kopeck coins will gradually disappear: what will change
Banks will stop minting and supplying coins to their cash registers, and all withdrawn coins will be handed over to the NBU for disposal. Significant savings are expected for the state and banks on the production, storage, and transportation of unnecessary coins.
Starting from October 1, 2025, the National Bank of Ukraine will begin a phased withdrawal of 10-kopeck coins from circulation. The coins will remain a means of payment, but banks will not issue them during cash transactions.
Currently, there are over 5.5 billion change coins in circulation, of which 4.1 billion are 10-kopeck coins. The demand for these coins has significantly decreased, while 50-kopeck coins are actively used. The withdrawal of coins is necessary to reduce costs for their production and circulation.
Starting from October 1, 2025, in the absence of 10-kopeck coins, the receipt amount will be rounded to the nearest value: down to 00 for amounts from 1 to 24 kopecks, up to 50 for amounts from 25 to 49 kopecks, down to 50 for amounts from 51 to 74 kopecks, and up to 00 for amounts from 75 to 99 kopecks. Cashless payments will remain unchanged.
Similar rules have been in effect in Ukraine since 2018 after other denominations of coins were withdrawn. However, their impact on the inflation rate is negligible since rounding only applies to the receipt amount during cash payments. The decision is supported by the NBU Board Resolution No. 115 dated September 8, 2025.
The National Bank of Ukraine has decided to start the withdrawal of 10-kopeck coins from circulation to reduce the costs of their production and circulation. The demand for such coins has significantly decreased, while the well-known 50-kopeck coins are always in demand. This decision will not only help save money but also simplify transactions for citizens in the absence of 10-kopeck coins.
