Latest Russian Strikes Across Ukraine

According to 5 канал: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that within the past week, Russian forces fired 62 missiles-most of them ballistic-as well as over 1,550 attack drones and almost 1,560 guided aerial bombs at Ukraine. The attacks hit thirteen regions of the country, signaling a further escalation of aggression. On the night of August 16, Kyiv, Kremenchuk, and Kryvyi Rih came under fire from missiles and 106 drones.

Missile Types and Strike Targets

Russia deployed a mix of munitions, including Oniks anti-ship missiles, Iskander-M and KN-23 ballistic missiles, S-400 systems, and Kh-59/Kh-69 guided air-launched missiles. The primary target areas were:

  • Kyiv region
  • Poltava region
  • Dnipropetrovsk region
"Just this week alone, thirteen regions were struck," the president said. "The enemy launched more than 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 guided bombs, and 62 missiles against our cities and communities."

To repel these attacks, Ukraine used aviation, surface-to-air missile units, electronic warfare capabilities, unmanned aerial systems, and mobile fire groups from the Defense Forces. Zelenskyy noted that "emergency services are working at the scenes of the morning and night strikes. Fires in Kyiv were quickly contained, and repair work is currently under way." He also pointed out that Kremenchuk and Kryvyi Rih were targeted with ballistic missiles and expressed condolences to the families and friends of those affected.

The president went on to urge international partners to step up their support and bolster Ukraine's ability to shield its skies from ballistic threats. "It is vital that our people's dedication is matched by new action from partners to protect the sky," Zelenskyy said. "When North Korean ballistic missiles damage infrastructure and take lives here in Europe, European interceptors cannot be allowed to sit idle in storage." He added that each new assistance package "literally translates into saved lives and protected infrastructure every day."

These figures illustrate the growing intensity of Russia's campaign and the persistent danger to Ukrainian civilians. They also reinforce Ukraine's urgent need for more military aid, particularly advanced air-defense systems capable of intercepting ballistic projectiles. Zelenskyy's appeal for stronger air-defense cooperation could prove key to strengthening the country's resilience as the conflict continues.

In light of the recent wave of attacks, it is crucial to understand the broader implications of Russia's military actions.
