Hero Alfiy Oleksandr Petryshchuk: how the defender died on Mount Karachun

Oleksandr Petryshchuk died on June 24, 2014, on the front line near Sloviansk while performing military duties. This news was reported by the news agency 'Hromadske', citing the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory.
Biography and Service
Oleksandr Viktorovych Petryshchuk was born on February 27, 1987, in Chernivtsi. From childhood, he dreamed of serving in the military and was fascinated by information technologies. After his studies, he entered the Lviv State Lyceum named after Heroes of Kruty, and then the National Military Academy of Telecommunications and Informatization.
After graduation, Petryshchuk joined the Security Service of Ukraine and entered the 'Alpha' special operations center of the SBU, where he was engaged in counter-terrorism.
Heroic Death
While performing a task near Sloviansk on June 24, 2014, the helicopter carrying Petryshchuk was shot down by militants using a surface-to-air missile system, resulting in the deaths of Oleksandr and his colleagues.
Oleksandr Petryshchuk was buried in his hometown Chernivtsi, where he was posthumously awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi III degree. A memorial plaque was placed on the facade of Chernivtsi Lyceum No. 20, where the hero studied.
Additionally, the Chernivtsi regional council awarded Petryshchuk with the 'For Merits to Bukovyna' distinction and the 'For the Glory of Chernivtsi' medal. A memorial sign was erected at the site of the tragedy.

The editorial team of 'Hromadske' also honors the memory of all citizens of Ukraine who gave their lives in the fight for the country's independence and perished due to the actions of Russian military forces, including soldiers, civilians, and children.
