Convicted Traitor Shariv Lashes Out at Ukrainian Tennis Players Over Their Stance
Anatoly Shariv’s Criticism of Ukrainian Tennis Stars
According to Главком: Anatoly Shariv, a pro-Russian propagandist with a treason conviction, has attacked Ukrainian tennis players for their comments about Russian competitors during the French Open at Roland Garros. He claimed that Ukrainian athletes hold daily press conferences to insult Russian players.
“I've been watching Ukrainian tennis players at Roland Garros for many days now-not their athletic performances, but their political ones,” said Anatoly Shariv.
Shariv also criticized demands placed on Russian tennis players, arguing they should not be forced to condemn their government’s actions. “Why should Russian tennis players be required to condemn anyone? Why should they put their families at risk by making such statements?” he asked. He emphasized that athletes should focus on sports: “Tennis is a sport. If you don’t like your opponents, you can simply not step onto the court and stop playing tennis.”
Anatoly Shariv’s Legal Troubles
Shariv is implicated in a case of sexual abuse of minors and has been convicted of high treason. The Vinnytsia City Court sentenced him in absentia to 15 years in prison with asset forfeiture. In 2023, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) charged him with treason, linking him to the production and distribution of staged interrogation videos of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian forces.
- The minor abuse case was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations on June 29, 2022.
- Allegations of Shariv’s pedophilia have been circulating since 2017.
- His sister, Olena Manchenko, accused him of pedophilia.
- Ukrainian law enforcement recently reopened a criminal case against Shariv under Article 156 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine-sexual abuse of minors.
Shariv has been living in Spain since 2019 and is also under investigation for covert collaboration with a career officer of Russia’s FSB Fifth Service, M. Y. Kosenko. His accomplice, Anton Shevtsov, former head of the National Police main department in Vinnytsia region, was charged with treason in early 2024. According to the SBU, “the fabricated videos were later used by Russia to artificially discredit Ukraine’s military and political leadership, including on the international stage.”
Shariv’s activities-spanning propaganda and serious criminal charges-highlight the complex political landscape in Ukraine. His criticism of Ukrainian tennis players can be seen as an attempt to sway public opinion amid the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, underscoring the significance of athletes’ positions in international competitions. It also raises questions about the responsibility of public figures regarding political statements and their societal impact.
In light of Shariv's controversial remarks, it's important to consider the broader implications of political tensions on sports and athletes. Recently, another high-profile figure, a wanted Ukrainian lawmaker, was spotted in Vienna alongside oligarch Novynskyi, raising questions about the intertwining of politics and sports in Ukraine.
