Ziobro’s Presence in the U.S. Confirmed

According to Главком: Former Polish Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro has verified that he is currently in the United States. He departed Hungary, where he had been in hiding since 2025, after the country’s new leader, Peter Magyar, pledged to extradite him to Polish authorities. In Poland, Ziobro faces charges of misusing state funds and conducting illegal surveillance through the Pegasus spyware program.

Ziobro secured a U.S. journalist visa with personal approval from Donald Trump, despite objections from Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Ambassador to Warsaw Tom Rose. He has already started working as a political commentator for the American branch of TV Republika. Notably, Polish authorities revoked his passport, and he crossed the border using refugee documents issued in Hungary.

Extradition Efforts and Political Fallout

Polish Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek has confirmed the initiation of extradition proceedings against Ziobro. Hungary had granted Ziobro political asylum, and he publicly thanked Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Ziobro stated that

“the United States is a country of freedom”

and expressed hope that

“until real guarantees of the rule of law are restored in Poland,”

he would not return to his homeland.

The Ziobro case highlights the strained international relations between Poland and Hungary, as well as the challenges facing politicians under investigation. Poland’s refusal to recognize his refugee status and the subsequent extradition process could lead to diplomatic tensions. Meanwhile, support from Hungarian authorities and his new role in the U.S. may influence political discourse in Poland and the broader region.
