Ukraine's Men's Biathlon Team for the World Cup

According to Главком: The Ukrainian men's biathlon team has announced its roster for the seventh World Cup stage, scheduled for Kontiolahti from March 5 to 8. The team features two changes compared to the previous competitions in Antholz. Anton Dudchenko and Taras Lesiuk, who were previously part of the squad, will continue their season at the IBU Cup level. They will be replaced by Bohdan Tsymbal and Artem Tyshchenko, who have earned the opportunity to compete at the World Cup stage.

Significance of the Kontiolahti Stage

The Kontiolahti stage represents a crucial point in the competition, as the Ukrainian team aims to improve its results following the 2026 Winter Olympics, where the squad finished without a medal but placed in the top ten on eight occasions. This upcoming World Cup is a key test for the team's form and strategy.

The Ukrainian team roster for the seventh World Cup stage is as follows:

  • Dmytro Pidruchnyi
  • Vitalii Mandzyn
  • Bohdan Borkovskyi
  • Bohdan Tsymbal
  • Artem Tyshchenko

This roster was formed based on the athletes' current results and also took into account issues with U.S. visas, which influenced the selection decisions. As noted by Nadiia Bielova, the team formation process considered performances at the Olympic Games, as well as results in the World Cup and IBU Cup.

Furthermore, the IBU Cup season will conclude with two stages in Lake Placid, the first of which will run from February 26 to March 1. These competitions will also be important for Ukrainian biathletes in the context of preparing for future international starts.

The composition of the Ukrainian national team for the World Cup reflects the squad's preparation strategy for major competitions, considering both previous results and external factors like visa issues. The team is striving to regain its competitive edge after a disappointing Olympic performance, underscoring the need for positive results on the international stage. The Kontiolahti World Cup and the IBU Cup events will be critically important for team development and preparation for future challenges in the sport.
