Oleksandr Balanutsa Takes on Dual Role

According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed Decree No. 333/2026, appointing Oleksandr Balanutsa as Ukraine's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Bahrain, on a concurrent basis. He will continue to serve as Ukraine's ambassador to the United Arab Emirates alongside this new role.

Career and Biography

Born in 1980 in Kropyvnytskyi, Balanutsa holds advanced degrees as a Candidate of Economic Sciences, Doctor of Philosophy, and Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences. He is fluent in English, Arabic, and Spanish. His professional journey began at the Ministry of Finance and financial monitoring agencies, and he has also worked in education as a lecturer.

From 2016 to 2019, he served as Ukraine's Consul in Dubai, followed by a term as Ukraine's Ambassador to Kuwait from 2019 to 2024. In 2024, he worked as Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, and since 2025, he has been serving as Ukraine's Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates and as the country's representative to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

This appointment highlights Ukraine's strategic focus on strengthening diplomatic ties in the Middle East, where Bahrain is a key partner. Balanutsa's concurrent ambassadorship in the UAE underscores Kyiv's push to deepen cooperation with Arab nations, particularly in energy security and investment. Expanding diplomatic missions could also unlock new avenues for trade and cultural exchange.

In a similar vein, Ukraine continues to enhance its diplomatic presence globally, as seen in the recent appointment of its Ambassador to Italy, who has also taken on a significant role at the UN FAO. This strategic move reflects Ukraine's commitment to bolstering its international relationships. For more details on this development, visit Ukraine's diplomatic efforts at the UN FAO.
