Ukraine's Zelenskyy, on Recapturing 300 km²: 'We Are Definitely Not Losing This War'
Ukrainian Defense Forces Report Gains
According to ХВИЛЯ: In an interview with AFP published on February 20, 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy detailed the successes of the ongoing counteroffensive, including the liberation of 300 square kilometers of territory. Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukrainian troops continue to advance on the southern front, demonstrating the force's sustained activity and resilience against the aggressor.
The President expressed his firm belief that Ukraine will not be defeated.
“It cannot be said that we are losing the war. Frankly, we are definitely not losing it, definitely. The question is whether we will win,” Zelenskyy stated.
He also congratulated the Ukrainian army and all defense forces on their achievements.
Pressure from External Powers
Zelenskyy highlighted the pressure being exerted on Kyiv by both Washington and Moscow regarding the situation in Donbas.
“Both the Americans and the Russians say that if you want the war to end tomorrow, get out of Donbas,” he added.
The President also noted that the Russians seek to replace him, revealing the aggressor's intentions.
Furthermore, Zelenskyy voiced a desire to see a contingent of international partners positioned closer to the front lines, underlining the critical importance of support during this difficult period. “Of course, no one wants to be on the front line, and of course, Ukrainians would like our partners to stand with us on the front line,” the president remarked.
President Zelenskyy's statements point to an active phase of military operations in Ukraine and underscore the vital role of international backing in countering the aggression. The successes of Ukrainian defense forces, particularly the recapture of territory, could shift the conflict's dynamics, though the situation remains complex due to external pressure. The continuation of the counteroffensive and the engagement of international partners are key factors for ensuring regional stability and supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity. This comes as Ukraine continues to defend its sovereignty more than four years after the full-scale invasion began.
