Zelensky on Patriot: Ukraine will order 27 SAMs from the USA
According to glavcom.ua: The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that Ukraine intends to order 27 Patriot surface-to-air missile systems (SAMs) from the United States to strengthen the protection of its airspace. While these systems are being manufactured in the USA, Kyiv is suggesting European countries lend their Patriots to Ukraine. According to Zelensky, the Ukrainian side is making efforts together with partners to protect against possible Russian air threats, but the process is slow. Some countries, including Great Britain, are currently not ready to send fighter jets to patrol the Ukrainian sky.
Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine intends to place the order with an American manufacturer for 27 units of Patriot air defense systems. While this order is being fulfilled, there is a possibility of 'borrowing' similar air defense systems from European countries. According to the president, the issue of introducing European troops into Ukrainian territory requires caution, as excessive pressure on partners in this matter may have negative consequences.
In December 2021, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the intention to order 27 Patriot surface-to-air missile systems from the USA to enhance the country's defense capabilities. Due to the slow process of manufacturing these systems in the USA, Ukraine is considering obtaining such systems from European countries as a temporary protection. The president also emphasized the need to avoid excessive pressure on partners in this matter to prevent negative consequences.
