Leaders Hold Phone Call

According to Главком: On February 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump. The discussion centered on peace negotiations to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, with the leaders also outlining the potential for a future summit between themselves. Specific dates were set for upcoming meetings between diplomatic delegations, which could help advance a resolution to the conflict. This high-level contact underscores the continued U.S. diplomatic engagement in the crisis.

Upcoming Meetings

A meeting involving American, Ukrainian, and Russian delegations is scheduled for early March. In preparation, the head of Ukraine's negotiation group, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, will hold a series of meetings on February 26. His interlocutors will include U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Scott Bessent. According to Zelenskyy, these discussions are crucial for preparing the upcoming trilateral meeting of negotiation teams.

As relayed by Steve Witkoff, the American president would only join a leaders' summit after a meeting between Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin takes place. A separate bilateral meeting between Ukrainian and U.S. representatives is also set for February 26 in Geneva. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of addressing the topics to be covered at the Geneva bilateral meeting and the preparations for the future negotiation team meeting.

These talks could represent a significant step toward stabilizing the situation in the region.

The preparations for trilateral talks and the involvement of high-level American representatives point to a sustained U.S. interest in a peaceful settlement, which could substantially influence the course of events. A successful outcome from these negotiations could lay the groundwork for greater stability and security in Ukraine and the surrounding region.
