Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Address to the European Parliament

According to Главком: On February 24, 2026, marking the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a speech to the European Parliament. His address coincided with the arrival of European leaders in Kyiv for a summit dedicated to the invasion's anniversary. Zelenskyy described the Russian regime as a dictatorship that refuses to recognize international borders.

The Ukrainian leader argued that while many dictatorships exist, some confine their repression within their own borders, attempting to block external influences of freedom. In his view, Russia represents a different kind of dictatorship-one that actively seeks to destroy the freedom of its neighbors.

“This is a mentally unstable dictatorship that cannot accept that in Europe, every life matters, human rights matter, and that nations can be protected regardless of whether they are large or small.”

President Zelenskyy further emphasized that Vladimir Putin is unable to accept the simple truth that people can live differently and enjoy a life distinct from his own. “That is why he constantly tries to break someone-not just now, not just these four years, but throughout his entire time in power. He is war itself,” Zelenskyy added. This speech comes at a critical juncture in the ongoing conflict, underscoring the ideological battle at its core.

The Ukrainian leader also addressed all those who support Putin, stating that by doing so, they are choosing war.

Attendance of European Leaders

The event was attended by several European leaders who had traveled to Kyiv for the invasion anniversary. Among those present were:

  • European Council President António Costa
  • European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen
  • Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković
  • Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa
  • Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal
  • Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir
  • Lithuanian Minister of Defence Robertas Kaučėnas
  • Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen
  • Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson
  • Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre
  • Finnish President Alexander Stubb

This high-level gathering served as a powerful signal of the European Union's support for Ukraine amidst Russia's continued aggression. The presence of leaders from across the continent highlights the broad political consensus in Europe regarding the threat posed by Russia.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy's speech to the European Parliament not only highlights the ongoing reality of Russian aggression but also the crucial importance of international backing for Ukraine. The attendance of European leaders at the summit demonstrates their resolve to support Ukraine and their commitment to strengthening cooperation in defense of democratic values. These developments are likely to significantly influence the future trajectory of the regional situation and the shaping of international security policy in Europe.
