Zheleznyak stated that the West did not raise the issue of stopping aid to Ukraine due to the Yermak case
People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak stated that Western media did not call for suspending support for Ukraine due to corruption scandals surrounding the government. According to him, the international press, on the contrary, emphasizes the importance of the work of anti-corruption bodies even during the war.
What Western media say about Ukraine
Zheleznyak analyzed the latest publications from Reuters, Associated Press, The Washington Post, and The Guardian, which related to corruption investigations and the case of the former head of the President's Office.
According to the deputy, most of the materials were critical of certain representatives of the government but did not contain calls to suspend aid to Ukraine or reduce support.
«There has never been a call to suspend support for Ukraine», — Zheleznyak stated.
He also emphasized that Western journalists view the fight against corruption as an indicator of the maturity of Ukrainian democracy and an important condition for continued support from partners.
Zheleznyak stated about the blow to the government's image
The deputy acknowledged that corruption scandals negatively affect the international image of the Ukrainian government, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and former head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak.
At the same time, he emphasized that foreign media pay much more attention to the war, attacks from the Russian Federation, and international negotiations than to internal political conflicts in Ukraine.
Zheleznyak also stated that Ukrainian politicians and journalists must communicate corruption issues carefully with Western partners to avoid harming the state during the war.
Earlier, Yaroslav Zheleznyak stated that during the court hearing in the case of Andriy Yermak, prosecutors revealed information about his communication with a woman who was referred to as «Veronica Feng Shui Office».
