Ukraine launches a pilot 5G project: how it will change communication in the country
A meeting with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky was dedicated to discussing current issues and projects aimed at enhancing the country's resilience. Particular attention was paid to challenges in telecommunications, particularly ensuring communication during power outages. The results of joint work with operators have already brought positive changes: over 2.1 million households are connected to xPON, 4G coverage has expanded by 93%, more than 50,000 Starlink terminals have been installed, and power supply for base stations has been ensured.
Further development of telecommunication infrastructure is planned, including increasing 4G and fixed network coverage, as well as launching a 5G pilot for all Ukrainians, including frontline territories. The adopted resolution on supporting mobile communication during power outages has already yielded positive results in the form of the construction of new base stations.
In addition, Ukraine is actively investing in the development of defense technologies, allocating over 2.6 billion UAH for these purposes, as well as providing grants for innovation development in this area. Financing programs for defense startups have been launched, creating new opportunities for Ukrainian companies.
The latest step is the active development of a digital state, which contributes to combating corruption and illegal schemes, as well as increasing tax revenues. The expansion of digital services for various categories of the population, including veterans and entrepreneurs, reflects the importance of this step for the country's development.
