Released civilians will receive 50,000 UAH and annual assistance: details of payments
Financial assistance to released Ukrainians
According to Главком: Released civilian Ukrainians, who were illegally deprived of their freedom by Russia, will receive a one-time assistance of 50,000 hryvnias, as well as the right to annual assistance of 100,000 hryvnias for each year of captivity. This decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, which also allocated 400 million hryvnias to support people released from Russian captivity.
As of today, almost 12,000 payments have been made for a total of about 1.2 billion hryvnias. Of this amount:
- 359 million hryvnias is the one-time assistance after release;
- 818.7 million hryvnias is the annual assistance.
In 2025, another 1.2 billion hryvnias is planned to be allocated to support those released from captivity and the families of the captives.
Support for released individuals
Yulia Svyrydenko noted that released civilians from Russian captivity, regardless of the fact of deprivation of personal freedom as a result of armed aggression against Ukraine, receive basic necessities, such as:
- food,
- hygiene products,
- seasonal clothing and footwear.
They also have the right to free legal, medical, and social assistance. This confirms the state's commitment to support those who have endured difficult trials under captivity.
This initiative is an important step in supporting citizens who have experienced the traumatic experience of captivity. Providing financial assistance and basic needs will help the released adapt to life after their release and restore their usual rhythm of life. The continuation of state support also demonstrates Ukraine's commitment to care for its citizens in difficult conditions, which can become an important element of the country's social policy in times of military conflict.
