The 'Veteran Leadership for Community Development' Project

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: Community-led reintegration efforts like this are increasingly recognized as vital to veterans' successful transition to civilian life. The REALIS Charitable Foundation has launched its call for applications for a free leadership development project aimed at veterans, female veterans, and their family members. Over the course of the program, participants will complete five weeks of online coursework, followed by six days of in-person training, while also benefiting from mentorship and the chance to bring their own community initiative to life.

The organizers plan to accept 160 participants, with at least 70 percent of places reserved for veterans or female veterans. This gives veterans and their families an opportunity to become active agents of change in their local communities. Those interested must submit their applications by 31 August 2026 via a dedicated registration form.

Training and Opportunities

This project operates within the Rehabilitation and Reintegration Program for Ukrainian Veterans, implemented by IREX with the support of the U.S. Department of State. All participants receive free training in:

  • leadership
  • communication
  • project management

Participants also gain mentor support, a new network of like-minded people, and the opportunity to turn their own idea into a real project.

The program welcomes veterans, female veterans, and veterans' family members who are ready to be part of positive change. It offers a unique chance for anyone looking to expand their skills and contribute meaningfully to their community.

Involving veterans in community life is an essential part of their post-service reintegration. Beyond teaching the skills necessary for successful initiatives, the project creates a support network among participants-something that can significantly improve veterans' social inclusion. And because the program is funded through international cooperation, it underscores the importance of collaboration between government structures and civil society in addressing social issues.

In addition to leadership training, veterans looking to enhance their entrepreneurial skills can explore another valuable opportunity. The recently announced business program for veterans provides grants of up to $10,000, further supporting their transition to civilian life. This initiative complements the leadership program by empowering veterans to develop their business ideas and contribute to their communities.
