Ukraine's 'LightHome' Program: 33 Million Hryvnias for 126 Buildings to Achieve Energy Independence

126 houses received 33 million UAH for autonomous energy supply: how the program SvitloDim works
Програма СвітлоДім в Україні: 126 об'єктів отримали фінансування у 33 мільйони гривень для переходу на енергетичну автономію.

Funding for Self-Sufficient Energy in Ukraine

According to Главком: In just two and a half weeks, 126 Ukrainian apartment buildings have been allocated over 33 million hryvnias for autonomous energy systems under the 'LightHome' program. Of these, 91 buildings are in Kyiv and 35 are in the Kyiv region. This initiative is a direct response to the critical need for reliable power amidst ongoing infrastructure challenges. The program has received over 770 applications from buildings housing more than 128,000 families.

A review committee has processed 680 of the 770 submitted applications. From these, 256 buildings have either already received or will soon receive funding, while 424 applications were rejected. The most common reasons for rejection involve technical specifications or documentation errors.

Primary Funding Areas

The LightHome program provides multi-apartment buildings with grants ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 hryvnias for self-sufficient power. The most requested items in applications are:

  • Batteries (approximately 39%),
  • Inverters (approximately 32%),
  • High-voltage battery management systems (approximately 10%),
  • Solar panels (approximately 10%),
  • Various types of generators (approximately 10%).

Since February 2nd, entrepreneurs have also been able to access a government energy support package, which provides payments of up to 15,000 hryvnias to individual entrepreneurs. Of the applications submitted to LightHome, 78% come from associations of co-owners of apartment buildings (OSBB), 15% from building management companies, and 7% from service cooperatives.

The LightHome program represents a significant step toward supporting the energy independence of Ukraine's residential buildings, particularly given the instability of the centralized power grid. The funding enables the adoption of modern technologies for autonomous energy supply, which can substantially reduce reliance on grid power. However, the high rate of application rejections highlights the need for improved preparation and technical accuracy to allow more buildings to benefit from this vital support.
