European countries have spent over 137 billion euros to support Ukrainian refugees since the beginning of the invasion. According to the Ukraine Support Tracker, as of 2025, approximately 5.2 million Ukrainians who left due to the war remain in Europe. The European Union has developed a plan for a gradual cessation of temporary protection for refugees, considering two main scenarios: legalization of residence in the EU or voluntary return to Ukraine. Temporary protection will be in effect until March 4, 2027.

Leaders in providing assistance

Germany has announced 36.55 billion euros in aid for Ukrainians, who are the largest group of refugees in the country. Poland has spent 29.3 billion euros, coming in second for the amount of assistance. Czech Republic ranks third, providing 8.05 billion euros in support of 397.3 thousand refugees.

Data from Spain, France, Romania, the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Ireland, Norway, Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria, Turkey, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Latvia, Portugal, Lithuania, Estonia, Greece, Croatia, Cyprus, Slovenia, and Luxembourg are also represented in the table.

European countries are investing significant funds to support Ukrainian refugees, allowing them to have decent living conditions and hope for the future, despite the difficult situation in Ukraine. The invaluable contribution of these countries to assistance speaks to their solidarity and support for important humanitarian goals.
