Ukraine Responds to 217 Energy Attacks This Year with Support Measures
Government Announces Support After 217 Attacks on Energy Infrastructure
According to Кабмін: During a daily energy briefing chaired by the President of Ukraine, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported 217 Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the start of the year. Key ministries and heads of regional military administrations also participated. In response to these challenges, the state has implemented a series of support measures for the population, businesses, and households. These attacks are part of a sustained Russian campaign to cripple Ukraine's power grid, especially during winter.
Support Measures for Energy Workers and Businesses
To support energy workers who are working around the clock to restore the power system, monthly supplements of 20,000 hryvnias have been introduced, with the first payments scheduled for this month. Furthermore, the Naftogaz Group has provided 'Heat Packages' to residents of the Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Desnianskyi districts of Kyiv, as well as to Brovary and Boryspil. The first 10,000 such packages have already been distributed, with companies like Energoatom, Ukrenergo, and Ukrhydroenergo also involved in providing them.
Beyond aid for the population, the government has focused on business support. Over 9,000 entrepreneurs have applied for a one-time state grant of up to 15,000 hryvnias. Additionally, partner banks have received more than 270 applications for 0% annual interest loans under the 'Affordable Loans 5-7-9' program. Applications have been submitted to 7 banks, with a total of 43 banks participating in the program.
A new program, 'LightHome,' has been launched, under which the state provides multi-apartment buildings with between 100,000 and 300,000 hryvnias for the purchase of generators and energy equipment. This is part of comprehensive measures to ensure energy stability amid constant attacks on infrastructure.
As Denys Shmyhal noted, 'Energy workers, utility workers, and railway workers continue to eliminate the consequences of massive shelling of energy infrastructure. In total, since the beginning of this year alone, 217 Russian attacks on our energy sector have been recorded.'
The state continues to take measures to mitigate the negative impact on the population and businesses and to increase the country's level of energy security.
Given the constant threats from Russia, the measures taken by the Ukrainian government aim to ensure the stability of the energy system and support citizens during difficult conditions. The support for energy workers and entrepreneurs, along with new aid programs, demonstrates the state's efforts to maintain the viability of the economy and energy infrastructure during this critical period. Programs promoting energy autonomy for buildings can reduce dependence on centralized supplies and improve resilience in the event of new attacks.
