February 24, 2022: How Ukraine Did Not Anticipate Russia's Full-Scale Invasion

According to Студия Руслана Бизяева: On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Just before that, 200-250 thousand Russian soldiers were concentrated at the borders. However, as experts point out, the prevailing opinion in Ukrainian society and among experts was that a full-scale war was impossible, and the events were merely intimidation or provocation. 'War, war,' - this is how, according to the host, his reaction to the first explosions that morning sounded.

Key Reasons for the Lack of Anticipation

Social and economic expert Yuriy Velechko cites two key reasons for this lack of anticipation:

  • a lack of information about the internal situation in Russia;
  • Ukraine's denial of the fact that the war began back in 2014 after the annexation of Crimea.

This led to the failure to implement the 1993 mobilization law, which provided for the transition of the economy and state management to military operations. Expert Ruslan Bezyayev indicates that the shift in Russian policy occurred in the fall of 2021, and the immediate impetus for the invasion, in his opinion, was the meeting of U.S. President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Geneva. Both analysts agree that Russia did not plan a classic war, but rather a quick 'police operation', expecting the weakness of the Ukrainian system.
