40% of Russians fear rising crime due to war veterans: survey data

Fiery eyes of many Russians
Більшість росіян стурбовані можливим збільшенням злочинності через участь ветеранів війни.

According to glavcom.ua: About 40% of Russian citizens believe that the return of

heroes of the SVO

will significantly increase the level of crime. This is reported by 'Glavkom' citing a survey conducted by the

Levada Center

.

According to the study, 41% of respondents believe that the war has 'mutilated the souls' of those who had to go through it; 19% believe that 'SVO participants' have become 'cruel and prone to violence', and 11% think that during the war, the occupiers became 'indifferent and cynical'. Nearly half of the respondents were unafraid to give an answer that contradicts the position of the Kremlin: those surveyed admitted that they feel more negative than positive emotions towards the Russian army.

According to the Levada Center's research, a significant portion of Russians have a negative attitude towards participants of the war and believe that they have a negative impact on society. This indicates the complexity of the internal political situation in Russia and a division in public opinion regarding the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.
