Marking 75 Years Since the Birth of Valeriy Trehubov

According to Велика українська енциклопедія: On May 18, 2023, the architectural community commemorates what would have been the 75th birthday of Valeriy Oleksandrovych Trehubov, a distinguished architect, restoration specialist, and educator. Born on May 18, 1951, in Poltava, Ukraine, he left an enduring mark on both architecture and education, with a particularly strong impact on the study of architectural composition.

Trehubov became a member of the National Union of Architects of Ukraine in 1989 and was elected a corresponding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture in 2001. From 1996 to 2004, he served as the chief architect for the Poltava Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate. As one of the founders of the compositional school within the Faculty of Architecture at Poltava National Technical University named after Yuriy Kondratyuk, he led the institution for many years, introducing innovative approaches to the curriculum. For an English-speaking audience, it is worth noting that his work sits at the intersection of Orthodox ecclesiastical architecture and modern Ukrainian academic thought.

Trehubov's Enduring Legacy

Beyond his administrative and teaching roles, Trehubov conducted extensive research into the psychophysiological aspects of how people perceive scale in architectural environments-a contribution that enriched architectural theory. He passed away on September 30, 2012, in Poltava, leaving behind a legacy that has shaped generations of architects.

The observance of Trehubov's 75th anniversary holds special significance for Ukraine's architectural community, as his ideas and methods continue to inspire new professionals. His work in advancing architectural education, developing theoretical frameworks, and actively restoring cultural landmarks underscores his role in shaping the modern architectural landscape of Ukraine.

As we reflect on the influential career of Valeriy Trehubov, it is also important to recognize the contributions of other notable figures in Ukrainian architecture. For instance, the legacy of Anatoliy Dobrovolsky, whose remarkable journey would have marked 116 years this year, continues to resonate within the architectural community. His pioneering work and innovative ideas have similarly shaped the landscape of Ukrainian architecture, making it essential to explore these interconnected legacies.
