According to Главком: Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker will miss the Champions League quarter-final due to injury, with his recovery expected to take a significant period.

'He will not be available for the matches against PSG. His absence will last a little longer. We hope he will be back before the end of the season,' Slot stated.

2025/26 Season Statistics

During the 2025/26 campaign, Alisson Becker played 34 matches across all competitions, conceding 36 goals and keeping 13 clean sheets. His deputy, Giorgi Mamardashvili, has made 13 appearances, conceding 20 goals and recording three clean sheets.

Liverpool's season began with a penalty shootout defeat to Crystal Palace in the English Super Cup. In October 2025, they were eliminated from the League Cup by the same opponent. The team has reached the FA Cup quarter-final, where they will face Manchester City on April 4th. In the Premier League, with seven games remaining, Liverpool sits in fifth place, five points adrift of the top four. This injury is a major blow for a club whose season has been defined by high spending and mixed results.

In European competition, Liverpool lost the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie to Galatasaray but won the return fixture 4-0 to advance. In the summer of 2025, the club invested heavily in their attack, spending a total of €240 million on two center-forwards:

  • French striker Hugo Ekitike cost €95 million.
  • Swedish forward Alexander Isak was signed for a club-record €145 million.

Ekitike has scored 17 goals in all tournaments, while Isak, whose season start was delayed by transfer negotiations, has been out since December with a broken leg and has managed only 3 goals.

Furthermore, Liverpool has shown interest in Everton's versatile forward Iliman Ndiaye, who can operate on either wing or as an attacking midfielder, though his primary position is on the right. MLS Commissioner Don Garber has also confirmed interest in a potential move for Mohamed Salah.

Alisson Becker's absence could severely impact Liverpool's tactical plans, especially in the decisive Champions League fixtures. Losing their key goalkeeper jeopardizes the team's chances of success in the tournament. Given their underwhelming domestic form, Liverpool must now focus on improving their performances to secure European qualification for next season. The club's interest in new signings suggests a desire to strengthen the squad, aiming to offset the loss of key players and build for a more successful future.

As Liverpool navigates the challenges of the season without their key goalkeeper, the return of Alexander Isak to training following his leg surgery presents a glimmer of hope for the squad. His presence could be crucial as the team looks to improve their standing in both domestic and European competitions.
