Incident in Shevchenkivskyi District
An 18-year-old woman has been detained by police in Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi district for assaulting a 52-year-old serviceman. The attack occurred on May 21 aboard a trolleybus, as the soldier was returning home from duty. According to the victim, he had reprimanded the intoxicated woman and her companion for loudly swearing inside the public vehicle. In response, the woman struck him in the head with a bottle once they reached a bus stop.
Medics initially diagnosed the soldier with a closed head injury and soft tissue contusions, though he declined hospitalization. Police arrested the suspect under Article 298-2 of Ukraine's Criminal Procedure Code. Authorities are now preparing to formally notify her of suspicion.
Criminal Case and Administrative Charges
A criminal investigation has been launched under Part 1 of Article 125 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code. Additionally, police have filed administrative charges for:
- Article 173 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (petty hooliganism)
- Article 175-1 (smoking tobacco products in prohibited areas)
Separately, Kyiv law enforcement is looking into allegations that a veteran was beaten at a military recruitment and social support center (TCC & SP) in the same district. The veteran claims he was assaulted inside the facility and is currently hospitalized.
This incident highlights safety concerns on public transport and raises questions about youth behavior in shared spaces.
The attack on the soldier has sparked public outrage, as he became a target of aggression simply for trying to stop disruptive conduct. At the same time, the investigation into the alleged beating of a veteran at a TCC facility points to potential risks for those who should be receiving support at such centers. These events may fuel demands for stricter public order enforcement and better protection mechanisms for military personnel and veterans alike.
This incident comes amid growing concerns regarding public safety and youth behavior in Kyiv.
