The labor market in Ukraine has changed dramatically: why employers are looking for staff

Зміни на ринку праці в Україні: нові виклики для роботодавців у пошуку кадрів.

The transformation of the labor market in Ukraine is gaining new vectors, as reported by the director of the State Employment Service, Yuliya Zhovtiak. According to her, the government's focus is on supporting veterans and developing self-employment, while the employee becomes a key player in this market.

“There is a noticeable increase in inquiries from veterans. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, about 40 thousand defenders have contacted the Employment Service”

This year alone, 40 thousand veterans have approached the Employment Service, more than half of whom received support in the form of employment, training, or grants to start their own business. The rest have already adapted and found jobs.

Overall, since the beginning of the year, the State Employment Service has provided assistance to more than 520 thousand citizens, of which 75% received the necessary support: 300 thousand found jobs, 80 thousand underwent training, and 10 thousand received grants for developing their own businesses.

Staff shortage in the labor market

According to Yuliya Zhovtiak, the structure of the labor market has also changed. While previously employers had a wide choice among candidates, there is now a noticeable staff shortage, although there are already 240 thousand vacancies on the portal.

The mentioned transformations in the labor market indicate a gradual change in the approaches of businesses and the government to supporting employees, veterans, and small entrepreneurship. This may lead to further changes in employment in Ukraine and improve working conditions for many citizens of the country.
