Ukrainian teachers earn significantly less than their European colleagues. According to the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Serhiy Babak, the average salary of teachers amounts to 60-70% of the average salary in the country, which is 14-16 thousand hryvnias. This is why the teaching profession is losing prestige and is burdened by the problem of low motivation.
The worst situation is among young teachers, who without experience receive only 8-9 thousand hryvnias. Without proper compensation, teaching becomes less attractive, leading to a loss of specialists and problems in educational institutions.
Now there is a chance for change in Ukraine. Serhiy Babak has initiated an amendment to the state budget for 2026 to raise teachers' salaries to 19-28 thousand hryvnias. This is a step towards restoring the prestige of the profession and the motivation of specialists in the field of education.
