Andrii Agafonov ends his career: a legend of Ukrainian basketball bids farewell
According to glavcom.ua: Ukrainian center of the basketball club 'Cherkasy Mavpy' Andrii Agafonov announced the end of his professional career at the age of 39. He officially made this announcement on his Instagram page. The athlete admitted that this decision was unexpected for him, as he always dreamed of finishing his career at 40.
Agafonov concluded his career with a match in the regular season of the Ukrainian Superleague, where his team lost to 'Kharkiv Sokoly'. In this game, the center scored 11 points and made two rebounds. His last achievement was the bronze medal in the 2024/2025 season with 'Cherkasy Mavpy'.
Agafonov's long career
Over a career spanning more than 30 years, which began in 2001 with the club 'Khimik', Agafonov played for various clubs in Ukraine and abroad. He represented 'Budivelnyk', 'Odesa', 'Ternopil' and others in Ukraine, as well as several international clubs in Germany, Lithuania, and Romania.
Among his achievements are the gold of the Superleague and the Cup of Ukraine with 'Budivelnyk' in 2012, but he is primarily known for his bronze medals. The Ukrainian basketball player won seven bronze medals in the Ukrainian championship, including five in a row with 'Khimik' and other teams.
After more than 30 years of career in various clubs in Ukraine and abroad, Ukrainian center Andrii Agafonov decided to end his professional career at the age of 39. The renowned basketball player remains a legend of national basketball thanks to his achievements and high professionalism.
